Why Do Offices Have Reception Area?
Reception is a very important part of any offices, hotels, bars, restaurants and clubs. Normally reception furniture are different for the above industries with variation in the interiors. And you can easily spot the difference between an office reception and a hotel reception. All of the above businesses obviously receive people from outside and the reception is definitely the first thing they are going to see.
Many digital media companies in England have fantastic looking reception area. Last one I went to was located in London and it had a bar with club furniture surrounding it, it was more like a mini bar. What a first impression it made on me and I was very impressed. You only get once chance to make a good first impression.
I decided to change the look of my reception inspired from what I saw there but with a bit of a twist. I wanted cafe furniture with the couches you see in many cafes. I also moved the fish tank to my office from the reception and replaced it with a pool table. As we are a law firm we get very tensed and worried clients and bit of a pool and coffee will take them away from their worries for a bit and will also help the clients and us the experts to think properly with clear mind. I did ask few clients and they gave very good feedback, they loved the new looking reception. I also have to say a big thank you to my receptionist as she also helped me with the idea.
Now the reception has the basic requirements of desk, chairs, coat rack, table and stuff but it also has a creative effect of a cafe with a pool table. This brilliant change has made our clients feel like at home and not somewhere they don’t feel comfortable. In a legal profession like ours we have to spend a lot of time outside in the reception as well as in the office. Most of the time when the meeting rooms are occupied we can certainly have a chat with our clients in the reception and even have a game of pool or two.
